Doctors start strike today


Doctors on strike at Ikare Akoko hospital Ondo State
The National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD) has denied some media reports that the association had put off the strike it planned to start today, June 9.

in a statement signed by the National President of the association, Dr Mohammad Askira and made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Thursday.
According to the statement, the  reports were not only false but unfounded.
“The association wishes to deny some media reports saying that it has suspended the planned strike action in full.
“The association wishes to state that only members whose salaries are paid in full (with100% skipping) are exempted from  the strike starting on 9th June 2016, following the intervention of the speaker of the House of Representatives.
“While those who are getting fractions or no salaries will continue the strike action as planned.”,the statement said.
According to the statement, another meeting to be hosted by the Speaker himself is planned for next week tuesday with all the stakeholders.
“This is the true position of the meeting between the  president and other members of the leadership and the speaker of the House of Representatives held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016.”, the statement said.
The statement further enjoined all members of the association to disregard that media reports.
“All members should await and regard further communication only from the NARD leadership.”,the statement added.
