The University of Ibadan Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is planning to embark on a one week strike. According to the ASUU, UI, they are awaiting the approval of the strike by her national body.
The need for strike is to protest illegal deduction of pension and salary shortfall. The chairman of the Union Dr Deji Omole who preceeded over the meeting on Wednesday in Ibadan, threatened to proceed if the matter is not looked into.
The chairman of the Union gave the management of University of Ibadan up to March 10, to address the issues. ASUU asked the Governing Council to mandate the Vice-Chancellor to present to the staff unions the budget, detailing the personnel cost, capital and recurrent expenditures as presented to the university Senate.
The union expresses that they are convinced that the deduction of pension are illegal, and so the university must refund all deducted pension since 2004.
The union expresses that all items stated above if not addressed by Friday, the staff unions in the university, arising from the warning strike earlier issued in August 2016, will embark on an indefinite strike,” The chairman of the Union said.
